Aberdeen software specialist upgrades Wood setup

10th December 2008

Aberdeen based software, training and consultancy specialists, Monitor has successfully completed a £500,000 project with Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) Ltd, one of the UK's largest oil and gas engineering contractors.

Monitor, which has provided software solutions to Wood Group for 15 years, has effectively completed a one year project to upgrade the company's existing management system to Monitor's mpower software.

Ian McKenzie, Monitor managing director, said: "Wood Group recognised that their existing project management system required adaptation in order to support the company's rapid expansion. With Monitor's mpower project management solution already in place within Wood Group, we were contracted to roll-out the most recent release of the system, incorporating the latest project management technology, incorporating the Primavera 5 Planning tool, into a web-browser interface, allowing them total visibility of business performance."

The team at Monitor, who won this year's Northern Star Business Award for best use of ICT (Information, Communication Technology), were represented on a Wood Group steering group, which decided on a two phased design and execution approach to customise the mpower software and implement Primavera, improving the functionality available to Wood Group from time writing and cost management through to procurement, planning and invoicing.

Dave Buchan, Wood Group Engineering (North Sea)'s commercial director, said: "The project was required to support significant Wood Group growth. A key objective was the continuity of business as the new system was implemented, there could be no downtime that would impact on company performance. Monitor personnel were integrated into our Project team throughout delivery and "go - live" and we were extremely impressed with the caliber of support provided and with the final system. We firmly believe that the Project Management System we now have is the best toolkit in Aberdeen allowing us better control and visibility of our business going forward"

Monitor has been providing innovative software solutions to the Oil & Gas, engineering and construction industries since it was established in 1987. Now in its 21st year, the firm has headquarters in Aberdeen and an office in Houston, servicing the majority of companies operating in the North Sea.
